Maine Good Sam Lake Region Wanderers

We are an active camping group, with about 20 couples that participate regularly. We meet every month - during the winter Nov to April; we meet at the Gorham Saving Bank Operations Center, Community Room, in Gorham, on the first Friday of each month. These meeting consist of a Potluck Supper, normally a brief business meeting, and then games. (Our group plays a lot of dominoes). In November we have a Thanksgiving meal, and December we have a Christmas Party at a local restaurant. The spring and summer months, we camp together on a monthly basis. Again, we have a Potluck Supper on Saturday evening followed by a brief business meeting and games. We also keep the campfire going for conversation and companionship. We usually have 12 to 15 rigs at each campout. No one is required to attend all the camping trips or meetings, but it is hopeful that once you meet the members and spend some time with us, you will want to attend all those possible. The members that want to participate, support the MS Bike-A-Thon that is held at St. Joseph’s College. We provide our rigs as rest stops for the bikers, and set up to deliver meal and snacks to the riders as they participate in the two day Bike-a-Thon. In addition to camping, and companionship of the group, we also work for various charity opportunities, raising monies from Ice Cream sales at the Samboree’s and with raffles. In past years, we have made a $350 Scholarship donation annually, to a local student, and have made additional donations spread out to the following charities. American Cancer Society–Relay for Life, Hospice of Southern Maine, Good Will – Hinckley, the Ronald McDonald House of Portland and food pantries of Standish, Westbrook and So. Portland.
