HELPING OTHERS

Maine Good Sam'rs  work hard to assure that the SAM in Good Sam continues to stand for SAMARITAN.  Many of the FUN activities at our Samborees help generate revenue for worthy causes in the state. Here are just a few of the organizations that are helped when YOU come and have a good time! Don't forget that each of the individual local chapters give thousands of dollars each year to these groups and others; as well as meeting the needs in their own communities!

Accepting a donation from State Director, Diane Qualey is Mike Smith of Camp Sunshine  a place where the entire family of a child facing a life threatening illness can come to enjoy some great times.

Eileen Chetein of Make-A-Wish of Portland, Maine reminded us that often a child doesn't have the luxury of waiting for the economy to turn around before a wish needs to be realized.

The Ronald McDonald House of Portland,Maine  was serving as a home away from home for the person who accepted a contribution from Martin Qualey. He and his wife were within walking distance of the hospital where their child was being treated. We relied on the postman to deliver a matching contribution to the Bangor Ronald McDonald House.

Long time friend of Maine Good Sam, Mikey Boultier (C) stands aside current president of Special Olympics of Maine, Phil Geelhoed. The heartily expressed thanks for MGS supporting their athletes for many years.

The 'Marden's Lady' 'Birdie Googins' (C) stands with Maine Good Sam Club Budget Committee Member Shirley Libby (L) and her chauffeur Bob Libby(R) when they delivered several Project Linus Blankets that were sewn at the 2009 Fall Samboree (see some on display on the wall behind these folks). Project Linus Blankets are given to children with life threatening illnesses. Marden Stores are a big supporter of Project Linus and donated the fabric to the Good Sam sewing crew. Three cheers for Helping Others while having a Good Time!

Eager to get involved, president of the newly formed Dirigo eSams chapter of Maine Good Sam, Henry Currier (L) delivers our donation to his home town's Good Shepherd Food Bank. Accepting is Dr. Rick Small (R) . Funds were derived from the Chicky-Maine-O chick hatching game everyone enjoyed at the 2009 Samborees. Having fun AND being able to help others is what it's all about! Visit www.gsfb.org to see how you can also help this or the many other food banks in your community!
